Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, demons, and sinister influences increasing in power within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the events of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the group access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them few options but to travel to the northern region in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight players to form the Seekers and Schemers tables.

Viewers can expect discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
