Catherine's Yearly Yuletide Carol Concert Honours Community Volunteers
The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Yuletide celebration at Westminster Abbey, with guests including members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.
The large audience will enjoy a blend of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as award-winning actors.
Centred Around Kindness and Compassion
The theme of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.
Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.
"The time, care and compassion you give, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," the Princess expressed in a message before the concert.
A Gradual Return
The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to the public eye subsequent to her illness and medical care, recently giving her initial major address in two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".
Performance and Potential
Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from talented youth performers supported by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to music lessons.
An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who plays the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the trust, with awards contributing to instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at the concert.
"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now a student at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.
Generations Gathering
Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.
Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.
That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a young hero award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for community pantries.
Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment
The Abbey has been adorned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.
The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
